Office Yoga, 2nd Edition
At-Your-Desk Exercises
By Diana Fairechild
160 pages, 48 illustrations
Desk jobs are hard on the body. Working for long hours at a computer can cause back pain, headaches and even mood swings. But now you can learn how to counteract stress and maintain physical well-being. All it takes is five seconds to three minutes, and you don't need to leave your desk or change into exercise gear -- by using Diana Fairechild's new book, Office Yoga..
After teaching the exercises, Office Yoga then applies the principles to solving specific problems. The section called "Reduce Pain" deals with eliminating aches in the head, neck, wrists and back. There are sections called "Increase Productivity" and "Improve Efficiency" with advice on bettering the digestion, improving coordination and reducing eyestrain.
There is an extensive "Symptom Chart." Readers can look up specific target areas -- "Neck," for example -- and learn which exercises to do for relief.
Although based on traditional yoga, you don't need to be a swami to do these exercises. Office Yoga explains each exercise in simple terms and illustrates each by means of realistic digital "models." A sample exercise is on her website <www.Flyana.com>.
Office Yoga is Diana Fairechild's personal wellness regime. According to the author, Office Yoga will help the desk-bound stay flexible, look better, keep the emotions on an even keel, and think more clearly. The author of four books, Fairechild knows what it means to work at a keyboard. And she has practiced yoga for 36 years, refining her skills during her fifty trips to India -- made when she was an international flight attendant.
Fairechild is best known for her book Jet Smart, which has helped millions of airline passengers to beat jetlag. As a "consumer rights activist," she has been quoted by TIME, Forbes, Smart Money, Glamour, Whole Earth Review, and CNN, and she has contributed articles on the subject of healthy flying for Reuters and ABCNews.com. Her 1999 book, Jet Smarter: The Air Traveler's Rx has an endorsement by Andrew Weil, M.D.
