| "I
read your NONI book, and I could not put it down until I was done. It's
exhilarating, spiritual, and very moving at the same time. Thanks." -Judy

| "NONI
is a decidedly enchanting book of fact and herbal wisdom with a friendly
folklore feel to it. It will have special appeal to those who are daring
enough to go beyond double-blind studies and accept anecdotal information
and the 'clinical research' of ancestors, natives or other-'wise' resourceful
people. For me, therein lies the art of living anyway--the willingness
to rely on intuition, common sense, and what nature shows us. NONI is another
example of Fairechild's wonderful talent. She naturally and easily captures
in her writing a mystical lightness that connects us to our better selves,
that brings us closer to our creator. And all in the context of solid,
usable, unique information." - Linda Evans, Atlanta Wellness Journal

| "Diana
Fairechild has put together the most complete writing on noni--culturally
and spiritually-- that I have ever seen." -- Lyons Kapi'oho Naone, Maui

| "I
read the book twice within the first few days. I highly recommend it."
--Alan G Clark |
| "This
paean to noni and its curative powers is written in the same humorous,
quirky, whimsical style as her first book, Jet Smart, which many of you
have enjoyed. It provides fascinating reading about this little-known fruit,
including photos, recipes, and instructions for its use. Best of all, perhaps,
it gives one the feeling of a short trip to the good air and relaxed living
of those wonderful islands in the Pacific. Try it." -Lynn Lawson, Canary

| "Diana
Fairechild is an authentic visionary and a gifted writer, and her latest
book is a wonderful example of the healing spirit she brings to all her
work." -Jonathan Kirsch (author & attorney) |
| "Received
your wonderful book today. Thank you so much for the personal autograph.
I have been taking noni since November 1996 and agree completely with you
that it is wonderful. I was diagnosed with breast cancer December 23rd,
1994. I am leaving next Monday for Nashville to attend a noni convention.
I will be taking your book with me and will have all the information anyone
needs to order their own copy. I hope you get many orders." -Diana Morrell

"Bee Communing with Noni"
by Diana Fairechild |
Feeling blue? Ancient natural
medicine from Hawaii might be just what the doctor ordered.
Hawaii, long dependent
on tourism and sugar, has found a new treasure buried in its own backyard.
Noni, prized by South Pacific islanders for hundreds of years for its natural
healing properties, now looks set to join tea tree oil, St. John's Wort and
aloe vera on the shelves of herbal wonder preparations.
Noni has been growing naturally in Hawaii's rich soil for generations and
trees can be found in diverse climates from the wet streambeds on Kauai to
the dry lava flows on the Big Island.
Juice from the fruit of
the noni tree has been used to treat everything from high blood pressure
to arthritis and infertility, and has even been linked to the control of
cancerous tumors.
Now Hawaii's farmers are scrambling to catch up with rival noni producers
in Tahiti and Samoa to supply a multimillion-dollar nutriceutical, i.e. nutrition
as medicine, world market.
In ancient times, many
Hawaiians had noni trees in their yards and drank the fruit juice as a cure
for everything from influenza to senility.
In Hawaiian mythology, demigod Maui was restored to life after noni leaves
were placed on his body. Volcano goddess Pele is also associated with noni,
in that recent lava flows on the Big Island appear to have changed their
course to spare old noni trees. One enormous tree in Kalapana, estimated
at over 300 years old, has three ladders stationed around it for harvesting
a year round bumper crop of noni fruit.
Today noni juice is prescribed by native healers for conditions ranging from
high blood pressure, tuberculosis, arteriosclerosis, hair loss, and asthma
to premenstrual syndrome, bee stings, jetlag, and detoxification.
Cancer research on the effects of noni at University of Hawaii in the departments
of pharmacology and medicine has determined that noni seemed to suppress
the tumor growth indirectly, by activation of the host immune systems.
It is only the shortage
of available noni products that is presently restraining Hawaii's commerce
in noni. Farmers are waiting for more noni trees to bear more fruit. Manufacturers
have to turn away customers and they don't want to advertise because they
don't have enough products to sell.
Some large plantings of Hawaiian noni will be maturing in the next couple
of years. Farmers wonder among themselves if the worldwide demand for noni
and other Hawaiian medicinals might eventually push agriculture to surpass
tourism as the state's number one industry.
There is presently no testing for noni's potency. But healers on all islands
agree that noni's potency is far greater when the plants are grown and the
products prepared with traditional Hawaiian reverence and heartfelt prayers.
Perhaps tourism and agriculture will merge with planeloads of tourists coming
to Hawaii for healing with fresh noni -- along with our sunshine and the
all-important aloha spirit.
